[Cycling Journey] Journey of Bikepacker - From Singapore to Malacca

Please allow me to show the video about our cycling trial from Singapore to Malacca before this story.

As you may aware we will be attempting fundraising cycling trip for Kidney Dialysis Foundation, which need to complete 15oo km within 7 days from Singapore to Thailand via Malaysia. We know it's not easy and need passion to overcome all challenges from mental and physical. Therefore, we planned for this trip from Singapore to Malacca, it's also about 250 km need to be completed within 12 hours, which for us to know how to prepare the long journey for the fundraising trip.

[Before our trip]
We were excited about this opportunity but also pray for this trip because safety is utmost important, you will never know what will happen on your travel. which includes traffic and external environment.

As a medical doctor, I need to ensure we can facing all challenges, we also prepared the First Aids and emergency medicine (which I will edit, and share how I prepare my personal first aids with you) , energy bars and gels. Of course, mini multi-functions tool, spare tires, cleats and chain repairing tool are all necessary.

Tips: not to pass custom from SG to MY in the evening

Heavy traffic jam at SG woodlands checkpoint
We planed to go to Johor Baharu in the first evening because we don't not waste our time on our trip from SG to checkpoint and pass through the custom. However, a lesson learned from heavy traffic jam because it's the peak hour, lots of Malaysian worker back to JB after work. We spent about 40 mins passing through. Having to say, this is not very cleaver decision if you would start your trip in the evening peak hours.

Tips: Take a rest and buy supplements at every gas station within 30 km. Do not wait until you start feeling hungry or exhausted.

We spent about 14 hours complete our journey from JB to Malacca, includes 9 hours cycling and 5 hours resting. We only had 12 hours day time and it's very dangerous cycling in the evening because there are lots of heavy vehicles and some of crazy drivers overtake and also, the road surface is not very good which is one of our concerns when cycling. The biggest challenge for Liuyang is the gap on the road, of course for the follower as well. It is common on rear-end accident for cyclist when you following someone who suddenly slow down, hit the gap or experience accident .

Supplement is very important, although you have energy bars and gels with you. All foods you have with you is only in case when you cannot find a rest point. Sometimes you will find zero gas station over 30 km. Take some food, and salt pills in every hour, never wait till hungry or exhausted. It's very dangerous if you run out of energy and cycling under 32+ degree Celsius.

I experienced heat stroke
We took another trial and try to find the most interesting cycling trial in this area, Please find cycling trial from Malacca to SG woodlands checkpoint via following link

Tips: Keep putting water on your sleeve and leg cover for cooling down body temperature.

This is very comfortable trial, without many climbing and also with trees. However, I experienced heat stroke after mountain climbing. All I can do is to lay down, put ice water and wait for cooling. Having to say, it's the most dangerous when heat stroke happen.

We hope this travel can share some of our experience of long cycling journey with you. Of course, it definitely a valuable memories of our travel.
